Weather can have a powerful impact on one’s thinking, focus and mood. This morning, I watched the fog approaching; it was a “pea soup” kind of fog. Sometimes it seemed to be dancing toward me. Foggy mornings are especially appealing to me because they set a tone that it is OK to get lost in thought…to reflect on feelings, on ideas and on dreams. You slow down and take in the mystery – what’s out there, will it be clear to me soon, what will it look like when it is clear – through the haze of a morning fog.
Just as the fog can stop a sailor from taking a boat out or a driver from continuing on the road or a plane from landing, it can help us to stop and think. Fog helps us to reflect and when it clears to be clearer ourselves about what we truly want. It is a safe, mysterious place to think and as the fog moves on, brilliant sunlight breaks through…just as we have a breakthrough in what gives us light.
Talking to my friends about the fog helped me to realize that we need to seize these natural events that can bring us greater clarity. They slow us down in a most wonderful way. Next time, you see a great wall of fog, slow down, relax and let your mind wander to a place of awake dreams, a place where your foggy thoughts will help you to
discover and become more aware.
What is foggy in your life right now? Take some time and see what is illuminated for you as the fog lifts.
